One of Shimmerman Penn’s most established areas of industry expertise is in architecture, engineering and design (AED), where we have been serving clients since our firm started more than 30 years ago.

With an intimate understanding of owner-professional issues, key financial metrics and important accounting matters relating to contracts for services, we’ve helped many AED firms over the years to launch, grow and succeed. We’ve also worked very closely with industry groups like the Ontario Association of Architects, to which we provided key recommendations regarding changes to the Architects Act (Ontario) in 2010 that resulted in greater flexibility for architects in structuring the ownership of their firms.

Our industry team provides ongoing educational services through webinars, presentations and articles on a broad range of topics.  We are an ongoing sponsor of the Ontario Association of Architects annual conference, Society of Design Administration Canada and Canstruction Toronto.

Whether providing you with strategic planning and financial benchmarking advice to consultations on taxation and legislative matters, everything we do for you will demonstrate our keen understanding of and sensitivity to the unique challenges and nuances of your industry.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Structuring new business partnerships
  • Understanding common industry valuation methodologies
  • Creating succession plans for organic growth
  • Financial benchmarking using key industry metrics
  • Designing creative compensation strategies
